performative utterance

John Austin, in his 1960 book How to Do Things with Words, calls “performative utterances,” often used as a means of social control. A “performative utterance” is a word or phrase that actually accomplishes something in the real world. When a judge says, “Guilty,” to a defendant, or a groom says, “I do,” the words alter material reality.

Gangster Computer God Worldwide Secret Containment Policy

It's easy to dismiss Francis E Dec (author of what you hear above) as simply a paranoid schizophrenic, as that was pretty clearly what he was.

Of course, other schizophrenics might possibly tune into his form of nuttiness and then agree that what he speaks is true.

But it occurs to me that there may be another possibility: What if the very degenerative brain disease from which he and all schizophrenics suffer also causes their brains to be immune to the controlling transmissions that so many of them say exist?

The New Improved Umour site

The long awaited overhaul of our web page is finally complete, and the new site launch is scheduled for next week. We will be working on migrating most of our existing art, music, photography and literary content to the new site structure over the following weeks.

The basic concept is to make all the Umour content easier for us to upload, and easier for you to access. To do this, we have streamlined the home page menu, and employed some web based hosting services such as Tumblr, Photobucket, YouTube and Blogger to host our content, making it possible for any of the Umour Ritual Specialists to upload and post content at will. Readers will be able to subscribe to these posts through an RSS feed, or just by visiting the Umour home page and clicking on the link button for the type of content they are looking for.

Worry not, the original site is still active and will remain so until all it's contents have been migrated to the new format. The original site can be accessed by clicking the "ARCHIVES" button on the new home page.

Enjoy!
